School Policy Guide

Attending school regularly is an important part of student success at school. Predictability helps students thrive in their academic routines and develop more meaningful connections with their school community. Students must be in classrooms each day by 8:40 a.m. to be considered present and on time. If your child will be absent or late, please call the safe arrival line at 204-6506 or fill out this form to inform the office of the nature of the absence/delay.

Lindbergh actively works to provide an environment where every student feels safe and cared for so that they can engage in targeted learning - both academic/content and social emotional. We provide explicit and ongoing instruction to ensure students have the skills necessary to meet our expectations for school, which prioritizes taking care of ourselves and others in our community so that we can be ready to learn. Adults also receive instruction and are expected to regularly participate in social emotional learning and unlearning in order to become more anti-racist educators and better serve the needs of our school community as a whole. At Lindbergh, we see everyone as a lifelong learner and work to provide targeted support at every level. We believe that fair means that everyone gets what they need.

• Kennedy Heights Community Center walks with students to their after-school programming. Please contact them directly at 244-0767.
• Kindercare transports students after school with their own bus. Please contact them directly for more information at 249-3393.
• We are unfortunately unaware of before-school care at this time.

Lindbergh Elementary knows families are the most valuable partners in our students’ education. Parent/teacher conferences, typically held in November and April, provide caregivers and staff an opportunity to share academic and social-emotional information. We encourage our scholars to join these conferences to be part of the conversation on their learning and growth.

To ensure the safety of your child(ren) and security of the school, please call or email ahead to the main office if your student will need to leave before dismissal.

Three steps to early pick-up:

1. Ring the buzzer to request student release.
2. Verify identity.
3. Sign out student(s) on blue sheet with time & reason for dismissal.

Please remember anyone picking up a student must be authorized and listed in Infinite Campus or have permission from a parent/guardian. We may request to see identification. While school is in session, no non-school staff (including parents) will be allowed to go to a classroom unaccompanied. The early dismissal process can take a few minutes so please try to arrive with enough time for your child(ren) to transition; please avoid attempting to pick up between 3:15-3:30pm as we are preparing for dismissal during this time.

All staff work in collaboration with the School-Based Leadership Team (SBLT) to develop a School Improvement Plan (SIP) that establishes goals for the school year. The SIP helps to focus the work of staff by targeting strategies that can be implemented to improve achievement for all and close opportunity gaps.

We ask that students please leave ALL non-school items such as toys, games, balls, or other personal items at home. If your student brings a cell phone to school, the expectation is that it is off and away at all times during school hours. We do have a lockbox to keep cell phones in during the day to keep the device safe and limit the potential for it to become a distraction; it is not advised that students keep their phones in their backpacks or desks. We are not responsible for missing items, however, if something is missing, please have your student check with the office. Thank you for keeping valuable items at home.

Before School: Doors to school do not open until 8:30 am; there is no supervision until that time. Please wait with your student if they will be arriving earlier than this time. Students should wait where their grade lines up; no students should access the playground. Classes start when the bell rings at 8:40 am with breakfast available for all. It is expected that all students are in their classrooms ready to learn by 8:40 am or they will be marked tardy (or absent).

Recess: We work to ensure our large playground space has adequate supervision during our recess times. This might mean that students are assigned to specific areas or “zones”. Supervisors at recess are adults wearing orange vests; students should report any issues or problems to these adults first so that we can support them in the moment.

After School: Families and those picking students up should wait at designated pick-up spots. When the bell rings, students leave from their assigned doors and wait with their class for their name or spot to be called via walkie-talkie. Teachers and staff will help students exit school grounds until the grounds are clear. Students must leave the building and playground once school ends unless they are there with a supervising adult. The playground is closed after school during after-school programming; grounds can be utilized by the public after 5:45pm.

It is essential that you observe signs and traffic safety by only parking where allowed, crossing the street only at the crosswalk, and observing directions provided by supervising staff. We have four pick-up and drop-off spots; it helps to be consistent in your pick up spot.
